Columbia Sportswear Japan and Matsumoto City created an official partnership a few years back with a common goal of protecting the environment. It was the second partnership in Japan after Kawakamicho, Hokkaido.
Kamikochi is considered the birthplace of the Japanese Alps and gateway to world class mountain climbing.
I was asked to create an original graphic that highlights the depth and texture of the Kita Alps to be installed as a large sign in the field store that opened April of 2023 in the Kamikochi bus terminal’s second floor.
From Kamikochi valley you can experience panoramic views of snow capped mountains in the late fall and early spring along with crisp blue sky.
Many people use Kamikochi to access the Kita Alps for mountain climbing. Karasawa Hutte is a popular destination on the way to Mount Hotaka, Mount Kita, and Mount Yari.
