We woke to a light dusting of snow here in Norikura Kogen. We need a bit more snow before the resort will open all the runs but this was a nice way to start the day.

I was in Nagawa, a neighboring community today for a meeting and got to enjoy some fresh Soba buckwheat noodles. Nagawa is famous for their Soba which is produced locally in the village.

Today is the opening day for Mt. Norikura Snow Resort. I headed up with two of my boys to make a few turns and enjoy some free Tonjiru pork and vegetable soup.

Mount Norikura (乗鞍岳 3026m) is the 10th highest mountain in Japan and lies at the end of the Northern Japanese Alps. The weeks leading up to monsoon season (beginning of June to mid-July) are known for exceptionally good weather and today was no disappointment.
