Have you ever been walking somewhere familiar and see something you’ve never seen before? Maybe you had walked that same street or path 100 times and always took care to look where you were going but never saw anything interesting before.
But on the right days and in the right light and at just the right time, it became visible. That is the magic of seeing vs. looking. Looking at things in a certain way keeps things familiar and predictable. And for humans familiar and predictable are not always good for us.
I think learning leadership is about “seeing” things through new lenses. Many lenses actually. There is a lense for each person on your team, there is one for each client or stake holder you serve.
