Today was the opening day of the 2019-2020 season at Mt. Norikura Snow Resort in Norikura Kogen. This year’s snowfall is arriving a bit late so there is only one lift open for now. There is some snow in the forecast for next week and they have been making some snow to fill in the grassy areas.
Mt. Norikura is known for its high-quality powder snow due to its relatively high elevation ranging from 1,500m to 2,000m. Above 2,000m there is also access to backcountry riding and snowshoe trekking with several local guiding companies running tours there.
